The second in the BMW art car series is the Frank Stella X BMW 3.0csl masterpiece, introduced in 1976 for that years Le Mans 24hr.
As with everything from Frank Stella, the idea is both simple and complex to the eye. A grid to simultaneously flatten and add dimension to the car. A technical drawing to represent a mechanical object. A flat drawing to create volume.
On the race track the car was obviously a visual standout with it’s simple livery compared to all the colors and sponsors of other cars. I can just imagine how the car looked, framed on the dark ashpalt between the outside burms.
In this set I thought to provide 3 cards that show the progression of the bare car to the eventual design, and 3 that play a little on the work of Mr. Stella, but in the context of the BMW 3.0csl
Pack of 6 cards, printed on thick 4 layer matte cardstock measuring 5.8" x 4.1".
